SupperClubs are great if you’re alittle peeping tom like me. Let’s face it. We’re all curious about what other people’s homes look like.
*silence….*
Anyway SupperClubs in London, are usually held in the hosts’ home and offers a unique yet affordable dining experience for all those willing to share a table with other foodies.
Our host, Guan Chua js a former Finance Analyst turned Le Cordon Bleu trained chef and Supper Club host.
He introduced Malaysian-Nyonya cuisine to us, for those not familiar with this type of cooking it is the blend of Malay & Chinese food cultures. The result is a combination of flavours that just blew my mind!
Noteworthy mention: Guan was a contestant on Channel 4’s ‘The Taste’ and was mentored by Chef turned food writer & television personality Anthony Bourdain. We were in good hands 😉
The menu for the evening reads like a dream.
Fried Assam Prawns
Lemongrass Sambal & belacan wings
Kerabu Salad with pineapple, watermelon, samphire & herbs
Ikan Masak Nanas – Skate & Pineapple curry
Braised caramelised pork belly in soy sauce, garlic & star anise
Goose-fat roasted Cauliflower with Sambal Belacan
Kerabu Salad with pineapple, watermelon, samphire & herbs
Pandan Madeleines, Frozen Coconut parfait, caramelised banana & Nestum crumble
Horlicks & Gula Melaka Choux Puffs
Coconut parfait with caramelised banana
I rolled out of Guan’s supper club one happy cat. Even managed to take away some of that exquisite Skate & Pineapple curry. This is authentic, no-nonsense home cooking at it’s fineness.
At just £30 per person, this is a steal! If you haven’t bought yourself a ticket for Guan’s incredible Malaysian supper club, roll over to his website and sign up for the next one. It is well worth it, and Guan is so lovely it’s like you’re just over for his dinner party.
